LED retrofit check

Can this lamp be replaced with LED?

A matching base is only the start. The existing power system, controls, available space and fixture environment decide whether the LED is a direct replacement.

Assortment of LED bulbs with different envelopes and bases
LED lamps can share a technology while differing in base, envelope, voltage, optics, controls, and fixture ratings.
Short answer

Simple screw-in incandescent replacements are often direct when the ratings match. Low-voltage halogen, fluorescent, plug-in CFL and HID systems may depend on a transformer, ballast, driver or rewiring method.

Direct replacement

Same electrical system

The base, voltage, dimensions and fixture ratings match, and no external ballast or transformer compatibility problem remains.

Conditional replacement

Check control gear

The LED manufacturer explicitly supports the installed transformer, ballast, dimmer or sensor—or supplies documented conversion instructions.

Stop condition

Do not guess at wiring

An integrated module, damaged socket, unknown voltage or undocumented bypass needs the fixture model or a qualified person.
